Provo-based
MultiLing, a company that offers translation services, is celebrating
its 20th anniversary in a year that holds much promise for the future.
The company employs 50-60 people in Provo and 120 worldwide, and has translated for many large companies, including General Electric, Dell, Toyota and Procter & Gamble.
Provo is rich with people who know foreign languages, said Brian Chandler, the vice president of business development and technology at MultiLing. But MultiLing's translation is done only by natives of the country where the translations are to be used.
"We're in an good environment in terms of having highly educated people with language backgrounds, and they understand cultures and nuances very well," Chandler said.
The environment for business globally also is good, he said, noting that the state of the economy has helped.
"It's a good market for us right now, since the dollar is weak. Companies in the U.S. are looking at outside countries [for places] to do their business."
The company also has offices in Germany, Italy, Peru, Korea and Japan.
As a part its anniversary celebration, MultiLing recently staged an open house and named Mountain Crest High School as the winner of its "World's Fair Contest." In the competition, students submitted presentations about various countries for a top prize of $1,000. The company plans to stage the contest again next year.
